Why do Jellyfish sting?
We are at the beach and it has been covered with Jellyfish. The weather on the news even gave a “dangerous marine life warning”. Last evening we saw at least 10 Jellyfish washed on the shore. This morning my son was stung by something which we assume was a Jellyfish due to the reaction and pain and he was only knee deep in the water.
That got me thinking:
- Why do Jellyfish sting?
- Did God create them with the ability to sting?
- If so how could God declare it good?
- Do Jellyfish sting because they are suffering from the same sinful degradation the rest of the world has?
- Or do we not understand God’s definition of good?
Often we use the verse:
Rom 8:28-29
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. NIV
But honesty it is often hard to understand how certain things are for our good. We understand that “bad” things can be a source of growth for us or even for others, however, that is sometimes hard to grasp. What if we don’t see growth in ourselves or others? Do we understand God’s definition of good or will we only see somethings after we get to Heaven?
I will have to think about this more.
