One Mouthful Is Quite Enough

Here is a helpful reminder of what discernment is?

While the quote speaks of books, it can apply to so many areas – TV, Movies, Magazines, Music, and even some Preachers.

If I have a joint of meat on my table of which the smell and the taste at once convince me that it is putrid and unwholesome, should I show discretion by eating the whole of it before giving my judgment that it is not fit for food? One mouthful is quite enough, and one sentence of some books ought to suffice for a sensible man to reject the whole mass. Let those who can relish such meat feed on it, but I have a taste for better food.

  1. WOW! That certainly is an eye-opener concerning media. We subscribed to cable in order to watch news and such, but there is so much junk on it that I am thinking of canceling. The kids would not like it.

    Kelli,

Thankfully we don’t have to worry about cable. 🙂 Although lately I can’t even stand to listen to the news once at night. It isn’t possible to screen it quick enough to eliminate the “bad taste”. I prefer using the computer to read the news, if I want to, and not being dependant on what the news show gives. If there was just a way to block all ads.

Our family has the Skyangel t.v. programming and we love it. You can search it on the computer to see if it is right for you.

  2. This was good-especially given the massive amounts of drivel rolling off the printing presses under the category of “Christian” literature.

You know I don’t fault the unbelievers for producing trash. They don’t know better until the Lord opens their eyes. However, how can those who claim to believe the Lord of the Bible can do some of the things they do is beyond me. But then so many believers will dig through the garbage looking for savory tidbits when good food is right at their hand. Sad.
