Instaverse and Windows 7

Several months ago I mentioned how much I was enjoying using Instaverse.  It allows me to hover over a verse in an email or a word document and the complete verse pops up. Also when writing emails and Word type documents the Instaverse has an auto completion feature.

My only problem was that because my computer was using Windows 7, I did not have the ability to use Instaverse on websites.  That wasn’t a problem when websites used the RefTagger Bible verse program but many older web documents did not use that add on.  I typically had used Internet Explorer, but occasionally I used Chrome.  But for some reason I opened Firefox and surprise, surprise Instaverse works well in Firefox for web sites.

It will be nice if they ever upgrade the Instaverse so that it works on newer computers, but who can complain about such a great program that is totally free?

  1. Hi! That’s good news! Since my son has been encouraging me to use Firefox, and I am getting used to doing so (a little). Our new computer’s keyboard skips just about every other letter when I use Internet Explorer–very, very frustrating! But it’s not the keyboard. So, somehow we found out that it doesn’t have this glitch when we use Firefox! So, old mom just has to get used to it. Now, this is a new motivation for me to do it.
    Thanks!

    Wendy,

I’m glad I could help. I still prefer Explorer myself, but if there is something I’m reading with lots of verses, I have started opening it in Firefox. Old habits are hard to change, but it is worth it for instant access to the Scriptures.

  2. Strange that you folks are saying InstaVerse is working with Firefox. I’m using Windows 7 and InstaVerse does not work in anything. Too bad these folks are not on top of updates and as soon as Windows 7 came out, InstaVerse should have been ready. Obviously, they’re not too concered about it.

I’m using Firefox and Instaverse right now and they work just fine on my computer which is Windows 7. Maybe you need to reinstall Instaverse. I don’t have any problems using it in Word either. Now Instaverse does not work in a PDF, which would be nice but not necessary. But I cannot complain: It is a free program that works wonderfully. Can’t tell you how much easier the auto-complete Scripture function is when writing in Word. Even the expensive Bible program I have doesn’t work as well as Instaverse does for that feature. I’m amazed that it is still free as popular as it is. They could make some major money off of it if they desired.

My son does IT work and sometimes there is no reason to keep up with new versions. Before Windows 7 was out the computer companies were working on another operating system. Remember Vista didn’t stick around too long. Seems just a short while ago my son was beta testing Vista, now I don’t remember what version he is testing.

  3. On my system, I can use it in Word but not Firefox. I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled it so many times that it’s now pointless. It simply will not work in Opera, Firefox or IE8 for some weird and wonderful reason.
As stated, it would be nice if the folks that created this program took enough interest in it to keep it updated for whatever OS.
    It does work flawlessly on Windows XP and works fairly well on Vista, but much left to be desired with Windows 7. :-}

No clue why it doesn’t work for you. I didn’t really have any problem even considering I installed it myself. My Mr. IT isn’t available but I’m afraid he wouldn’t be much help. He dislikes Instaverse due to the system resources and memory it uses; so he doesn’t use the system for technical reasons. Now that Windows is back to a Windows type system, instead of Vista, maybe Instaverse will be able to update it. Surely there is some young (or old) computer guy that can solve the problem.

  4. I have a desktop with Windows-7 Pro and a netbook with Windows XP. When Instaverse did not work on the Win-7 machine, I installed it on the Win XP Netbbok. Did not work there either with Firefox, Word for Office 2007, or my text editor.

    gsingp,

Sounds like you may have a bad downloaded Instaverse version or some issue with the installation on your computer. I would try to re-download Instaverse and install it again. It should have worked in Word if the program was installed correctly.

  5. I have used Instaverse for years but upgrading to Win 7 x64 on all of my computers it no longer works. It was a wonderful proggie while it lasted it. It does nothing now in Firefox 10. It was a great tool for online ministry. WordSearch has never supported it kind of just threw it out there for use. I miss it greatly but oh well, all things work together for good to them that love God and are the called according to His purpose. Pumped up for the next move of God, peace

    Sky Peace,

I am still able to use Instaverse in my Windows 7 with Firefox. However, due to a change in computers I lost my extra Bible translations and have been unable to get them to download. So I’m limited to KJV. :( It would be nice if someone would take up the Instaverse and update it. If it could also be used in the Kindle and Apple formats, similar to how the dictionary works in them, that would be great. I would pay good money for that feature. Surely, someone someday will do that.

  6. I’m using Windows 7, and Explorer. I downloaded Instaverse on two computers one with XP and the other with Windows7. I installed the “Upgrade” and it stopped working. I’m using a third computer with Windows 7 but did NOT install the upgrade. It works just fine. I wonder… is the “upgrade” the problem???

    Mr. Larson,

I’m afraid I’m not much help with with the Windows / Instaverse issue. Now several of our computers are running Windows 8 but I must admit I don’t want to change due to the risk of losing Instaverse. Instaverse doesn’t seem to be supported any longer which is sad.

I would guess the upgrade did affect it but I don,t understand it enough. :(

  7. has anyone found an alternative to instaverse? I really really miss it. I am so spoiled, I can’t stand having to cut and paste like in the old days. #firstworldprobs

    Kevin,

Thankfully my really old Instaverse still works for me on my laptop in Firefox, Outlook and Word. I wish they would have continued to maintain Instaverse. I would be so happy if they could develop a version that would work on the iPad also. I would pay good money for that!
