Walking With God

WALKING WITH GOD implies our making progress or advances in the divine life. WALKING, in the very first idea of the word, seems to suppose a progressive motion. A person that walks, though he move slowly, yet he goes forward, and does not continue in one place. And so it is with those that walk with God.

George Whitefield in Walking with God

So is there evidence of progression in your life?

Are you no longer where you began?

Are you walking with God as Enoch did? (Genesis 5:24)

Psalms 86:11 (ESV)  Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth;  unite my heart to fear your name.

Psalms 119:1-3 (ESV)
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord!
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
3 who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!

2 John 4 (ESV)  I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father.

3 John 3-4 (ESV)
3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

  1. Whitefield always had a way to get to the heart of the matter. I pray God would raise up more preachers like him.

P.S. Hope the church plant is going well!!!

    Mark,

My husband is reading a book of his sermons and he came across this same passage. That means he has heard or read this quote three times in three days. :0 The Lord hasn’t seemed to want to raise up preachers like some of the older ones, but then again they may be out there and we just haven’t heard from them, yet. Now granted there are good, sound preachers out there but few Whitefields and Spurgeons!

The first service went great! Looking forward to what the Lord will do with us and through us. You’ll have to come visit sometime when you can get away from your home church.
