In the Old Testament, God decried the fact that His people were perishing for lack of knowledge about Him. The same seems to be occurring today. There is sharing, suggesting, plenty of storytelling, and lots of preaching to felt needs in modern pulpits. But the authoritative, expositional opening of the Word of God is becoming scarcer all the time.

{The free kindle books are available a short time, they are done sorta like a sale and end quickly so you can’t wait a couple of days to “purchase” the free book. If you don’t actually have a kindle you can get the Kindle for PC which will allow you to read kindle books for free.  There are also kindle versions for a blackberry and for an iPhone.}

  1. Actually, just to clarify, most of the FREE collections are NOT a limited time only; those would be classics (Pride and Prejudice, Gulliver’s Travels, etc.) and older texts beyond the copyright terms (usually the life of the author +50-70 years).

    Others ARE classified as a “limited time offer,” and those are typically newer texts (still within the copyright terms). The one above is probably a newer text and would probably constitute as a “limited time.” I don’t think they usually specify how long those limited time offers are, and don’t quote me on this, but I’ve had my Kindle for about 10 months, and I’ve seen many of the same books still on the limited time listing for that duration.

    There are also some blogs somewhere (“Kindle Nation” is one) which lists free Kindle offerings and may include some books which are hard to locate within the Kindle free listings itself, so those may be worth perusing.

    Anonymous,

    You are correct that there are many, many free classics and out of copyright books most of the time. However, the book listed above Feed My Sheep: A Passionate Plea for Preaching [Kindle Edition] is no longer free. It was only free for yesterday. Often by the time you find out about the books they have already gone off the free listing and now that kindle book is $9.60 which isn’t even a dollar cheaper than the hardback book.

    There have been several that by the time word got out that they were free, they were no longer free. 🙁 That’s why I add the note about not waiting. Typically the free books don’t say how long they will be available for free.
