Yep, Lots of Snow & Sleet

This afternoon we started out with sleet.  Heavy sleet!  The yard was beginning to turn white with sleet.  Then after dark it turned into snow.  It has been snowing for hours now and we probably have four plus inches and it is still snowing heavily.  Maybe even more now we can’t see the rocks at the pond, or the edge of the patio or anything but level flat snow.  Problem is this snow has a layer of ice underneath from the sleet.  Very dangerous to walk on.  🙁  The roads and interstates are closed.  We’ve even have had thunder-snow: thunder, lightening and heavy snow showers.  Snow is nice in how quiet it is, other than the thunder-snow.  Quiet and peaceful and clean.

Psalms 51:6-9 (ESV)
6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;  wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;  let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
9  Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

Everything has been washed, there is food to eat, animals tended to as best as possible, electric heat turned up high in case of power going out, and gas heat as an alternative. Now time to relax and watch the snow, praying the power doesn’t go out.

Yet?  Would it be bad to pray an imprecatory (to invoke evil upon) prayer upon those who have made a particular football game tomorrow night an idol?  We can’t seem to get the weather without having to hear about the “poor suffering” souls who spent thousands for tickets and flights to the game.  Seems our airport is closed and all flights are canceled.   Or might the Lord Himself have something to do with this snow and ice storm?  Of course, He did.  The Lord will not take lightly the worshiping of idols.  So maybe I don’t need to pray an imprecatory prayer after all.  Maybe just qualify it to people losing their cable and not their power.  But if losing their power is what it will take to turn the hearts toward the Lord, then so be it.  Maybe ours can stay on since we don’t have cable nor does the game matter to us. 🙂

  1. Wow, I heard on the radio this morning that AL was getting hit. I agree about the football game, too. My hubby was telling me that a guy he knew at work was going to a Colts game here and even the cheap seats cost over a hundred dollars. UGH! We are supposed to get 3-5 inches tonight, but here in Indy, that’s considered a light dusting. I pray you guys don’t lose power!

    Ma,

We had 3 1/2 – 5 inches of snow, haven’t measured in a clear area yet, with ice below and an icy crust on top. But we still have power! That is amazing due to the icing and the wind last night. Snow was blowing everywhere. Seems that the snow didn’t cling to the pine trees as bad as some snow storms. I’m sure your snow won’t shut down everything like it has here! All roads are closed, schools closed and they said they may stay that way here for a few days due to the temperature.

I can’t imagine paying that much money hundreds or thousands for just a game, especially if you could watch it on TV. The only reason I’d want to be somewhere like that is if I had a child participating in a game. Needless to say football is not an idol of mine!

  2. Wow, it sounds like you live in Minnesota, instead of Alabama!! I pray you don’t lose your power. Stay warm and safe, and enjoy the quieter time, if you can. Sometimes I think the Lord just says to everyone, “You think you’re in charge? You’re going to stop your plans, and that’s that!”
    Blessings,

    Wendy,

It is strange for Alabama that’s for sure! We had around 5 1/2 inches. That is from taking a sampling of measurements throughout the yard and averaging. It is hard to measure though because we have a layer of ice, snow and then ice again. Have to break through the ice to get the ruler into the snow to measure. We can walk carefully outside, but the ice on top is rough on the ankles. The cats just walk right over the icy snow and don’t even sink in.

Finally got most of my kids to go out and play. The baby says it is too cold and the oldest would rather nap on his bonus day off. Lots of good sledding on our hills at the base of the mountain for those who will play.

Best part is we have power!!! Yeah!!!

Definitely the Lord is in charge. 🙂 Wouldn’t want it any other way.
