The Alabama legislature has increased the mandatory school age from 7 years – 17 years to 6 years – 17 years. All that remains is Governor Bentley to sign the bill.
House bill 141 is proposed to increase the mandatory school age to 18 years. This one is not passed yet but is heading in that direction.
HSLDA has more information available about the proposed bills in Alabama or other states.

Maybe they should also increase the mandatory “teach the children how to read, write & cipher” bill while they are at it. They want the children in school for an extra year or 2 for what? Maybe more time for liberal theology.

Donna,
It takes a long time to rid children of what their parents have corrupted them with. Just think what the government could do if they offered “free” preschool! Then of course those who homeschool are still bucking the system and need to be brought in line. However, considering The Hunger Games are standard reading lately, aloud in the school no less, maybe it is safer for public schooled not to read too well.
