We will deliver 40 messages by elders from churches all across America, including Spanish speaking messages by Paul Washer. All of these messages are designed to help you to know God’s design for the church and therefore to see how to love her best. The church is the only institution Christ established while on earth and it outlasts marriage and family which are earthly and temporal.

Over the last couple of days I mentioned in some comments about how the Lord has allowed us to have the struggles we have in order to conform us to the image of Christ.
Romans 8:29-30 (ESV)
29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Then Friday and Saturday I happened to listened to this series of sermons from Paul Washer. They express the idea much better than I ever could.
Through Marriage, Being Conformed to the Image of Christ (Part 1)
Through Marriage, Being Conformed to the Image of Christ (Part 2)
Through Marriage, Being Conformed to the Image of Christ (Part 3)
This would be a very interesting conference to attend if it was closer to me. I am hoping that the some of the audio from the Conference is made available for free listening although just listening to the audio is not the same as being there.

The Disintegrating Church Family
… Now, there are many people who are so involved in ministry and so involved in things such as that in the name of Jesus Christ, that they have little time for their family. They are deceiving themselves. They are in sin. And they are
hurting their family….
… Well, in the family there is a thing that we call headship. The Bible does teach that a man is to lead his family. It does teach that and if you do not like that, I understand that, but do not call yourself biblical, because you are not. You are influenced by your own culture, you are influenced by the teachings of feminism and everything else, but you are not biblical. Okay? Let us just state that. There is teaching in Scripture about the headship of a man and his family. There is teaching about submission. The wife is to submit to her husband. Many people hate that because of teachings of feminism. Other people hate it because of the massive abuses in regard to that teaching. …
… One of the things that churches do, probably more than anything else that I have ever seen is they – now you listen to me, you listen to me very carefully – and I am talking about sincere men do this – they starve the people of God to death and then they use them as slaves to advance their own Kingdom. Listen to me. Do I care about the lost? No one can accuse me of not caring about the lost.
But I can tell you this, I care a lot more about you.
“Do good unto all men, first of all to those of the household of faith.”
Many churches start and they are all about evangelism, all about evangelism, all about evangelism. Every Sunday morning, every Sunday night, every Wednesday they’re all about evangelism, evangelism – and the sheep are starving to death. The sheep are starving to death. And so they do not feed the sheep, but they get sheep mobilized to go out there and win a bunch of people while the sheep are starving to death, their families are a disaster, their children are a disaster, and everything else, but it is a really going church. …
There is more truth in the Bible than we will ever live out. Are you obeying?
Are you being conformed to the image of Christ?
We as parents must often reevaluate our purpose in life.
What is your purpose?
What is your purpose in raising your children?
My purpose is to Glorify God in all I do, albeit I fail mightily at times.
1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. ESV
5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,
6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ESV
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. ESV
Revelation 15:4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” ESV
My purpose for raising my children is for the same reason to Glorify God. I am striving to raise them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord in order to Glorify God in what I do and so that they will Glorify God in all they do.
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. ESV
Paul Washer discusses parenting specifically for Fathers, although it is very helpful for mothers also. He covers quality time verses quantity time.
One statement he makes is so true – If sports builds character what about the NFL or the NBA?
How many parents focus on their child and sports and yet they forget the really important thing?
Paul Washer was in Birmingham, Alabama preaching last night at:
Grace Coventant Baptist Church
2059 Columbiana Road, Suite 103
Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216
Todd Wilson is the Pastor
Pastor – [email protected]
Recorded sermons (CD or audio cassette) – [email protected]
The sermons there can be found in the sermon archives.
We have visited at Grace Covenant but we found the hour drive through Birmingham to be too difficult for every service.
However, we might have have gone to hear Paul Washer but we had other commitments. My husband was preaching at another church that evening in the opposite direction. 🙂
Stupid. Lazy. Uninvolved. Ignorant. Timid. Detached. Neurotic. Weak. Powerless. Unreliable. Ineffectual. Irresponsible.
What do all these words have in common? They are all descriptions of how men and fathers are depicted in today’s Western culture. …
The role of the father is increasingly problematic in the context of modern American culture. Fatherhood has been marginalized and the rule and authority of fathers have been depreciated, ridiculed, and continuously redefined. From the Berenstain Bears to The Simpsons, fathers are all too often the object of ridicule or the subject of the laugh line.
Of course, some fathers bring this marginalization upon themselves as they either neglect or forfeit their own fatherly responsibilities. In many sectors of our society, fathers are most noted by their absence. Indeed, millions of American children are growing up without any significant father figure, much less their biological father. …
