Consuming Fire

April 25, 2009

I really don’t understand how people will pick a verse for their theme verse and have no clue what it means. Does no one tell them? What about their own pastors?

They came up with the name ‘The Furnace’ from a verse of scripture in the Bible.

Input Equals Output – AKA Garbage In, Garbage Out

April 24, 2009

A certain young boy grew up in the church. When he was a baby, they gave him juice and crackers in the nursery. When he got older, they gave him cookies and punch in the children’s program. Then, he finally got to the youth group and graduated to pizza and cokes (or I guess Kystal [...]

Can You Believe This? Youth Pastor

April 23, 2009

Last night after church we stopped at a Krystal’s for some of their square burgers. Krystal’s has had a “Hall of Fame” going on for quite a while. In it they portray the story of a person who loves to eat Krystal burgers.
Guess what one of the Krystal boxes actually said!

“Christian” Clubs Are On The Rise

March 30, 2009

There is another “Christian” Club for youth in Alabama. Modeled along the lines of The Basement, The Ramp, and The Generation, Outcry is another club like atmosphere where youth gather to listen to “worship” bands, dance and have a “relevant Bible study” thrown in for good measure .
‘Outcry’ of faith
A new Bible study is sweeping [...]

Give ‘em The Meat

February 19, 2009

My Daughter is in a Youth Orchestra that is formed from students from North East Alabama who have auditioned for the seats. These students really desire to advance in their music beyond what the schools and private lessons allow. Essentially, you would have to say they have a heart for music.
Two weeks ago, they were [...]

More On Family Force 5

February 5, 2009

I am glad that more and more people are starting to notice the detrimental effects of much of the CCM music our youth are listening to. I appreciate Ken Silva exposing the problem for a wider audience.

Looks like Apprising Ministries hit some kind of nerve here with Christian [...]

Winter Jam 2009

February 2, 2009

It is hard to believe that Winter Jam 2009 is back again!
Just one year ago, I heard that the youth at my church were going to Winter Jam 2008. After hearing the group name Skillet and that one of their songs was Rebirthing, I did a little research. That little research turned into a 370 [...]

Twilight – Praised by Christian Groups?

December 16, 2008

Lighthouse Trails has a lengthy post about the book series Twilight and the subsequent movie. I have noticed that several “Christian” sites have recommended the series for teens due to the supposed good qualities of the books.

The Centrality of the Home – Voddie Baucham

December 9, 2008

The Centrality of the Home – audio of sermon by Voddie Baucham
Eph 6:1-4
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 And, ye fathers, provoke [...]

Youth-Leader-as-Savior

December 5, 2008

Mike Yaconelli as quoted by Voddie Baucham in the his book Family Driven Faith.
The youth-leader-as-savior approach, extrapolated from parachurch ministries like Young Life and Youth For Christ has generally been destructive for all concerned. Alone and segregated from the church community, youth ministers are soon exhausted. … teenagers often accept the youth minister as their [...]

Youth Pastors

December 5, 2008

Defending. Contending.’s The Pilgrim has a post about youth pastors.
Who’s pastoring the youth pastors?
Besides the idea and concept of a “youth pastor” being completely absent from the Scriptures, and besides the fact that too often the “youth pastor” has never raised kids of his own, knows too little about theology and too much about MTV, [...]

Do You Know What Your Teens are Reading?

November 19, 2008

Twilight by Stephanie Meyers
Guarding the Hearts of Our Daughters
Sisters in Christ, I call upon you to help me guard the hearts and minds of our daughters. I know they will be entering the world soon enough, faced with such dangers on their own. Help me equip them to avoid these temptations rather than give in [...]

Judgment Houses

October 31, 2008

Here is one thought about why Judgment houses do not work. Maybe it will get you thinking about the question “Do Halloween “judgment houses” win many people to Christ?”
‘Judgment house’ evangelism
Do Halloween “judgment houses” win many people to Christ? I’d like to offer seven reasons why I think they don’t.

Discussion on Rick Pino

October 14, 2008

For the past couple of weeks I have been discussing with two young people The Ramp and Rick Pino. Since this was originally posted in early August, I figured very few have been to that post lately and so have missed the comments.
Rick Pino – “Christian Worship Leader”??

Family Force 5 – Another En Fuego Band

August 17, 2008

When Christianity Today has a critical review of a group you really must pay attention, because truthfully they are the recipient of critical reviews for being too liberal.
Christianity Today Music Review

At a glance … the fresh sounding debut by this Atlanta quintet is infectious and novel on the surface, but some may ultimately deem [...]

In researching the groups planning to be at En Fuego, I found several of the local groups are connected by a common venue, The Basement. Below is [...]

Summary of My CCM Research

July 19, 2008

This got too long for a comment box, sorry. My husband would complain and say just “cut to the chase.”
Gina from Chats With “An Old Lady” left a comment on the post “Katie Perry aka Katie Hudson“.
I appreciate her thoughts and I totally agree with her conclusion:

We need to be careful not to follow anyone [...]

Is Contemporary “Christian” Music Christian?

June 27, 2008

Sometimes you never know where God will lead you in your daily journey to obey him and the Holy Spirit’s prompting. Never in my wildest nightmares would I have envisioned that a simple conversation with a youth at our church one Wednesday evening would cause so much pain, stress, and months of work. Two simple [...]
