Many people start off the new year with a plan to read the Bible daily. I have used several different styles of Bible reading over the years but the last few years I’ve settled on a favorite style. I use the You Version Bible App The nice thing about this app is it keeps track of your reading for you, you can have it send you reminders, and my favorite feature is it can read the passages aloud for you. There are many different Bible reading plans available in the app. These are a few I enjoy:
1) Old Testament / New Testament reading plan.
2) “Chronological” plan is compiled according to recent historical research, taking into account the order in which the recorded events actually occurred.
3) The Prof. Horner’s Bible Reading System is meant to be an intense foray into every part of the Bible. This system will have you reading ten chapters each day.
4) M’Cheyne reading system, featuring four different readings for use in both family and personal devotions. Each day has two passages from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament, and one from either the Psalms or the Gospels.
One key thing to remember is that daily Bible reading should not take the place of real Bible study. Bible study should include serious contemplation and prayer over a particular chapter or verse while looking at cross references, context and different translations.
Daily Bible reading and serious Bible study will help anyone to grow in knowledge and wisdom in God’s Word.
