We Can’t Afford My Being Home

Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. ESV

“Sixteen out of 38 of Christ’s parables deal with money;

more is said in the New Testament about money

than Heaven and Hell combined;

five times more is said about money than prayer;

and while there are 500-plus verses on both prayer and faith,

there are over 2,000 verses dealing with money and possessions.”

John MacArthur, Jr.

Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” ESV

1 Timothy 6:6-10

6 Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment,
7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.
8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

The KJV says: “pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

What sorrows will be yours if working for the extra car, that vacation, the college education or the extra curricular activities takes the place of being a “Keeper at Home”?

Now many will say that they are not working for the extras but for the basics. That the husband’s income is not enough.

Are you sure that everything that the money is being spent on is a true need or is it a perceived need?

Millions call themselves by His Name, it is true, and pay some token of respect to Him, but a simple test will show how little He is really honored among them. Let the average man be put to the proof on the question of who or what is above, and his true choice between God and money, between God and man, between God and personal ambition, God and self, God and human love, and God will take second place every time. However the man may protest the proof is in the choices he makes day after day throughout his life.”

You see, income is not the problem. Spending more than one’s income is the problem. So reducing living expenses is the first step to finding money you never knew you had.”

Hebrews 13:5-6

5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
