The Next Story: Life and Faith After the Digital Explosion – Free Audio Book

The Next Story: Life and Faith After the Digital Explosion by Tim Challies – Free Audio Book

Even the least technical among us are being pressed from all sides by advances in digital technology. We rely upon computers, cell phones, and the Internet for communication, commerce, and entertainment. Yet even though we live in this “instant message” culture, many of us feel disconnected, and we question if all this technology is really good for our souls.

In a manner that’s accessible, thoughtful, and biblical, author Tim Challies addresses questions such as:

• How has life—and faith—changed now that everyone is available all the time through mobile phones?

• How does our constant connection to these digital devices affect our families and our church communities?

• What does it mean that almost two billion humans are connected by the Internet … with hundreds of millions more coming online each year?

Jesus, The Only Way to God – Audio Book

Christian Audio has a free audio book available until March 30, 2011.

Jesus: The Only Way to God
Must You Hear the Gospel to be Saved?

If the evangelical church at large was ever too confrontational in its evangelism, those days are gone. In our shrinking, pluralistic world, the belief that Jesus is the only way of salvation is increasingly called arrogant and even hateful. In the face of this criticism, many shrink back from affirming the global necessity of knowing and believing in Jesus. In Jesus, the Only Way to God, John Piper offers a timely plea for the evangelical church to consider what is at stake in surrendering the unique, universal place of Jesus in salvation.

Adopted for Life – The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families & Churches

by Russell Moore

The gospel of Jesus Christ—the good news that through Jesus we have been adopted as sons and daughters into God’s family—means that Christians ought to be at the forefront of the adoption of orphans in North America and around the world.

Moore does not shy away from this call in Adopted for Life, a popular-level, practical manifesto for Christians to adopt children and to help equip other Christian families to do the same. He shows that adoption is not just about couples who want children—or who want more children. It is about an entire culture within the church, a culture that sees adoption as part of the Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself.

The Pursuit of Holiness – Free Audio Book

The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges

“Be holy, for I am holy,” commands God to His people. But holiness is something that is often missed in the Christian’s daily life. According to Jerry Bridges, that’s because we’re not exactly sure what our part in holiness is. In The Pursuit of Holiness, he helps us see clearly just what we should rely on God to do-and what we should accept responsibility for ourselves. Whether you’re continuing your pursuit of holiness or just beginning, the principles and guidelines in The Pursuit of Holiness will challenge you to obey God’s command of holiness.

Handel’s Messiah Comfort for God’s People

Handel’s Messiah Comfort for God’s People – Free Audio Book

Handel’s oratorio Messiah is a phenomenon with no parallel in music history. No other work of music has been so popular for so long. Yet familiarity can sometimes breed contempt — and also misunderstanding.

This book by music expert Calvin Stapert will greatly increase understanding and appreciation of Handel’s majestic Messiah, whether readers are old friends of this remarkable work or have only just discovered its magnificence.

Stapert provides fascinating historical background, tracing not only Messiah’s unlikely inception but also its amazing reception throughout history. The bulk of the book offers scene-by-scene musical and theological commentary on the whole work, focusing on the way Handel’s music beautifully interprets and illuminates the biblical text.

His Master’s Will

Yesterday we were driving around quite a bit so we listened to a book in the car.  The Kindle has Text-to-Speech which really works well most of the time, nothing like “computer Sam” from years ago which read out loud all the periods, commas and question marks!  So the baby picked Black Beauty to listen to in the car.  I’m just driving along, not really even listening, because this is Black Beauty a children’s book I have read / listened to / watched it hundreds of times.  But all of a sudden my brain registers what the book is saying.

“…nor have any will of his own; but always do his master’s will, even though he may be very tired or hungry;”

In the Chapter 3, Black Beauty is telling how horses are broken in.  Black Beauty must be broken in to obey his new master because he has been bought.  This is where the above sentence is located.  That really caught my attention.  Isn’t that exactly how we should be with our Lord and Master?  No will of our own?  Ready at a moment’s notice?  Obedience even if tired or hungry?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body

1 Corinthians 7:23 (ESV) You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.

We are bought with a price and we should then always do the Master’s will in our desire to be pleasing to Him.

Are you well broken in and obedient?  Or do you have a mind of your own and your own agenda?

ChristianAudio.com is offering the classic

The Pursuit of God by A. W. Tozer

for a free download for the month of July.

Note: ChristianAudio offers many types of audio so beware of whom you listen to.  I don’t recommend just listening to a new author unless you have checked them out.  However, they do offer some very good audios such as this one at times.  Just beware.  Use Biblical discernment.
