Examine Yourself and Your Church – Paul Washer

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! ESV

Eternal Life – Paul Washer

“He saved you so that throughout all of eternity, you would be a blessing to His Son. So start now. Eternal life does not start when you cross over into glory. It starts at the moment of your conversion. Eternal life is this, to know Him so start knowing Him now. The purpose of your salvation is to bless Him, so start blessing Him now.”

“What do you want in heaven? What are you getting out of heaven? What do you want there, why do you even want to go? Think about it! Gates of pearls and streets of gold and all that…you can only swing on a gate so long before you get bored. See that is one of the greatest problems in Christianity and you hear it in our music. Singing more about heaven than the Christ of heaven. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but does everyone who wants to go to heaven want God? That’s why we have to turn our people. We have to turn the people we’re preaching to and tell them what are you doing. Cause I hear your language, I hear your talk and it sounds to me you’re more enamored with a utopian idea than you are with the presence of God. And when they say, “no I’m not”, then just ask them this question, “If eternal life begins with knowing God and since you already have eternal life and the door’s been opened for you to know Him, how much time do you spend knowing Him? That right there will describe the faith of many or reveal it. That we want a utopia more than we want Him.”

True Church Conference 2009 – Paul Washer – Evangelism

Paul Washer – Evangelism

Luke 24:36-46
36 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”
37 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.
38 And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”
40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”
42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,
43 and he took it and ate before them.
44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,
46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,

1. Totally convinced about the resurrection –

v36 Jesus himself
v37-v38 they were convinced
v39 Christ must give the interpretation

a) Real resurrection
b) same body that had died

2. Convinced of own peace with God

3. Convinced of the Grace of God

Experimental Relationship
Experience with Christ
Beware of giving a testimony of another’s testimony
Don’t just read about prayer – PRAY
Empowering and filling of the Holy Spirit – even if you call me charismatic!

4. Through grasp of Scriptures

Proclaim Christ as the only expected person.
The gist of prophecy is the suffering and resurrection of Christ.

5. Three Infinitives – v46-v47

Christ is to suffer
Christ is to rise
We are to proclaim

6. Burdened for the World and the INDIVIDUAL!

Are you in love with missions or with souls?

When my older children (17 & 13) are asked about boyfriends or girlfriends they tend to give the same look that they give people when asked “What is Santa bringing you for Christmas?” Meaning – that is sorta a stupid question but I’m not going to be rude and say that.

American dating is just asking for trouble. It is practicing for divorce and remarriage. The heartbreak that is caused by youth in high school breaking up is often the cause of depression, suicide and other violent crimes. Children are not able to handle the intense emotions that accompany dating and “going steady.”

Unless someone is willing and able to get married right away there is no point in developing a romantic attachment to another. Most 12 – 17 year olds, especially now, are not ready to be married and support a family. So why date? Just seems like encouraging our youth to get into trouble. It is like giving a four year old a box of matches to play with but saying “Don’t start a fire!”

This sermon by Paul Washer is a good summary of what I have been teaching my children all along.

It’ll Take All Your Life – Paul Washer

“How could we have such a low view of the gospel of Jesus Christ that we have to manipulate men psychologically to get them to come down and pray a prayer? . . . How many times have I heard evangelists say, “It’ll only take five minutes.“? No my dear friend, it will take your life–all of it! “We’re just trying to attract people and then we’ll gradually bring them in further and further.” That is what the cults do, that’s not what Jesus did. Notice that in the gospels every time a great crowd is following Jesus, he turns around and says something so radical to them that most of them walk away. Of course Jesus probably would not get invited to teach evangelism [in most churches today].”
